Beatles Manager Brian Epstein proudly announced to the group that he had booked them to do a live recording, for international television broadcast, of a new song. They were less than thrilled. However, John said he would come up with something. He forgot about it, but then wrote it over a few days. The initial idea was to just mime the whole thing. but John wanted to sing live, and then Paul wanted to play bass live. Next George wanted a live guitar solo, and Ringo wanted to do the drum roll at beginning. Watching the video, it is obvious that much of what you hear was recorded to tape earlier. The orchestra was definitely live, though.

This version is somewhat interrupted by voiceover, but I heard quotes from Bach's Invention in F and Glenn Miller's In the Mood. In the recording from Yellow Submarine, you can more clearly hear Greensleeves and Ringo singing She Loves You Yeah Yeah Yeah.
