Quite the First Job

A fifteen year old kid, having had his fill of formal education, decides to get a job in a recording studio. After collecting many rejection letters, he gets hired by EMI studios as an assistant, with a salary of about $8/week. On his first day, he gets invited to help at (without pay) a rare evening session with an unknown but promising group from Liverpool. They muddle through a song written by somebody else, and afterwards they rate it as "crap". The producer says "Well, until you can write something better...". They then play this for him:

The young lad was Geoff Emerick (from his book). The first take won the skeptical producer George Martin over, but Geoff says that, on the released version, Ringo was bounced from the drums, Paul was put on lead vocal, and John was asked to play harmonica. Ring was not happy, but he did play tambourine.
